High School Students go on Robbery Spree
Three local 17 year old high school
teenagers went on an Armed Robbery spree on 2-7-08. The targets of the robberies
were younger students who weren’t in school due to a snow day. The rampage
started around 1:30 pm on Harmon Street and as the teens drove north through the
city, other robberies were committed on L’Anse and in the area of Martin and
Manhattan The suspects then continued north and committed their last robbery on
Masonic near Harper at 2:35 pm. Through a detailed description given by victims,
the suspects and their vehicle were located and officers were able to stop the
vehicle in the area of St Gertrude and Greater Mack. Two of the teens fled on
foot and were caught by officers after a short foot chase and the third was
apprehended in the vehicle. Police recovered a weapon used by the culprits and
the property taken from the victims.
Prompt notifications to police and detailed descriptions of the suspects and the vehicle were key elements to the apprehension of the culprits.
Retail Frauds: Rite-Aids 23201 Marter and 25100 Harper
A suspect was observed loading various bottles of liquor from the shelves into a bag and leaving the stores. The store employees were able to get a detailed description of the suspect and the get away vehicle. They immediately called police dispatch and an area broadcast of the suspect and the vehicle was put out to area departments. Grosse Point Shores Police spotted the vehicle and apprehended two suspects after the vehicle crashed and an ensuing short foot pursuit. The suspects were in a stolen vehicle and are responsible for 3 other Retail Frauds in the same Rite-Aid stores. The fact that the store employees provided excellent eye witness accounts of the incidents and immediately notified police resulted in their apprehension and put an end to their string of thefts.
The eye witness information and descriptions from the victims and store employees in both of these instances resulted in the apprehension and arrest of perpetrators preying on the residents and businesses St Clair Shores. Together and in cooperation between the businesses/citizens and the Police Department, St Clair Shores is a safer place to live and do business.
