Curb-Painting Scam
It has been brought to my attention that there have been some solicitors in the area trying to paint residence addresses on their curb for $15. Although this is a good idea and does help the Police and Fire Department locate your house, some people are taking advantage of residence and scamming them in a couple of different ways:
1.
The solicitor states they are hired by the city
and that it is a law, you have to pay them.
(Not True, the city
hasn’t hired anyone to paint numbers on the curbs and it isn’t a law)
2. Another group is stating the Fire Department has hired them to conduct curb painting.
(Not True, again they haven’t been hired by anyone from the city)
3. They also have been known to claim they are representing a certain charity or “CAS”
(Curb Address Service). They charge $15 and even take checks made out to CAS
then they just add a “H” to the end of CAS, making the check now read CASH. They tend
to take your money and fail to return to paint anything on your curb.
I have checked with dispatch and they do not have a permit on file for anyone to paint addresses on curbs in the city. The police were called out and spoke with two solicitors, they were told to stop and to get a permit.
If you see anyone soliciting for the curb painting please call the police on the non-emergency # 445-5222.
